Again, the quality exceeded all my expectations and each individual component was wrapped seperatly with obvious care. The cockpit base is relatively simple to construct and takes around 30 mins to build. The cockpit base comes complete with the FMC bay, but is missing the EICAS2 Screen panel and the FMC/CDU panels. These are extra. However, in the meantime a blanking panel can be made and fitted.
The Main Instrument Panel arrives in 3 sections (Capt Panel, Centre Panel and FO's Panel) when you order the set (737NG_SET_MIP), Symulatory supply you with:
- 2 x dummy clocks
- All the relevant MIP panels
- Gear Panel (nice)
- Boeing style knobs
- Rotary knobs
- Switches
- Rotary Switches
- Potentiometers
- Annunciators
- LEDs
- Missile type Switch covers for GPWS panel and Nose Gear Panel
Parts not supplied with this set are:
- 737NG_GEAR (this is the Gear Lever Assembly)
- Backlighting
- LCD screens
- FMC/CDU
- EICAS2 Panel
Overall, the quality is exceptional. Made from MDF and moulded plastic, the whole MIP is a 1:1 scale replica of the real thing. The Glareshield fitted perfectly but I had to move the lower glareshield panel (the black one that mates with the top of the MIP) over a bit to compensate for the extention I put in the MCP part it. Easy though, just a few cuts with a fine saw to allow it to move over.

Next fit Capt and FO's footwells and sides to the FMC bay. then fit the top panel. THis slides into the cuts on the FMC bay. Job done.

OK, a quick word before you put this in situ. I bought 3 pieces of hardboard from B&Q for the flightdeck floor. Turn these upside down (shiny side down) and paint them grey (rough side). 3 side by side lengthways is more than enough for this part of the floor.
Once you have this down, you can site your base properly. Fit the Glareshield directly onto the top and fasten with screws provided. Now it is looking good. |

The Glass cockpit uses 3 LCD Monitors.
- Captains PFD/ND is 1 x 19" Dell Monitor
- Centre EICAS and Standby instruments incl Flaps guage is a Dell 17" LCD Monitor
- FO's PFD/ND is another 19" Dell LCD Monitor with a Y cable fitted., However, I will add another client PC running FSXpand to get this independant for the FO.

Still to come :
- FSXpand Configs
- Landing Gear Fitting (when it arrives from Simulatory)
- Wiring Diagrams for Inputs
- Wiring Diagrams for Annunciator outputs
- Key Assignments
- IO Card interfacing.
The MIP is now going to get removed from the base and I will wire up all the switches, encoders, LEDs, pots and backlighting.
I will also show you how to fix the LCD monitors in place so that you can easily remove the MIP if necessary without dismantling the monitors. B&Q again.
See you soon..... |
